Doris Sumner
I served in the Active Duty Army for 3 years as a truck driver. I transitioned to the Vermont Army National Guard and became a human resource specialist. I began working full-time for the guard in 1987 and retired in 2019. The last 13 years of my tenure I served the Adjutant General as the State Equal Employment and Diversity Manager. I received many awards and recognition both in State and Nationally for the strategies our team deployed to combat the sexism preceding sex-based offense. I launched my Diversity Consulting Company, 'Empowering Gender Opportunities' and wrote my memoir, 'Life At Camp: Combating the Sexism We Tolerate and why the military should take the lead.
